When John Galliano took over as head of Margiela, rumors began to spread that the split-toe shoe was not his favorite, and would wind up being cut from the permanent collection. This was a shock to most people as this was the first shoe Margiela himself ever released.
Fortunately, these will continue in the permanent collection at least until someone else takes the reigns as Creative Director. If you have small enough feet, this is going to be the shoe of 2016. Called it in February.
