Ann Demeulemeester brings back her classic corset boot for SS16 in a classic black calf-high. While the Dior AW07 Military Boot has received a majority of the attention this season, the corset boots have gone under the radar for some time. The price is a bit steep at $1425 USD, but because of the low-key status of Ann D, I expect them to get a pretty large percentage taken off when sales season hits. If you want to get a head start, you can pick them up here.
Ann Demeulemeester herself, is one of the most underrated designers of all time. Basically establishing the airy black aesthetic that Rick Owens has brought into popularity, Ann is one of the most consistent and well versed designers in the game. While all her pieces tend to be pretty steep price wise, most of them go on pretty heavy sale due to the lack of pop-culture knowledge of her brand.
Her popularity was established as one of the Antwerp Six, a group of designers who graduated from Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts between 1980 and 1981, although their breakthrough didn’t come until 1986 when they showed in London Fashion Week. The most well known of the six are Dries van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester and Walter van Beirendonck, while the other three, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs, and Marina Yee have virtually fallen off the map. They paved the way for the modern day fashion we see today, inspiring not only the likes of Rick Owens but also the illustrious Maison Margiela.
